The argument between the Hutus and the Tutsis began way before the genocide started, and the Tutsis were oppressing the Hutus first. During 500 and 1000 BC, the â€Å"Hutus first settled in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa† (The Heart) and lived in large agricultural families. The Tutsis, on the other hand, came much later to that land from Ethiopia, and they settled with the Hutus. They acquired their â€Å"language, beliefs and customs† (The Heart). The Tutsis began becoming more wealthy than the Hutus because they were cattle herders and the Hutus were farmers. The Tutsis became economically dominant over the Hutus and ruled the Hutus. Many historians believe that it was economic, not ethnic, differences in how close they were to the king. If someone was closer in distance from the king, then they are Tutsis, and if someone lived farther away from the king then they were Hutus. In the late 19th Century, the Belgians took over and made the Tutsis and the Hutus have identification cards. These cards made it possible for the Tutsis to have a better education and better jobs than the Hutus. The disagreement between the Hutus and the Tutsis started long before the genocide and caused numerous people to suffer. The assassination of President Habyarimana, in 1994, is considered one historical or political cause of the start of the Rwandan Genocide. She said that as time went on, it became easier for her to cope, but that there are times when it is extremely difficult. Melissa stated that she â€Å"can handle herself when she is manic by keeping herself busy, but when I am depressed, I can’t think straight. Right and wrong sometimes go out the window when I get really into that state. It’s like what ever feels good at the time seems so logical† (M. Tearful, personal interview, September 21, 2011). Melissa said that it was during the winter of this year when he lost power for his home and would do things like stay at his Job at Burger King for many hours after his shift, sometimes even napping at the store in order to sleep some place warm (M. Tearful, personal interview, September 2, 2011). Via electronic communication Ms. Patti Hollies shared her sister’s story of how she was left in pain because of lack of healthcare overage. According to Ms. Hollies, her sister had been experiencing pain in her leg and hip so she went to the ERE in Gerard, Ohio. The doctors did a CAT scan, which revealed nothing that would cause her to be in so much pain. They gave her a shot and sent her home. Over the next days she her condition did not improve, even after going to the ERE three more times. Because she had no insurance, the doctors refused to continue to seek out the cause of her condition. Her sister then brought her to SST. Elizabeth Free Medical Clinic in a wheelchair because, by this time, her sister was not blew to walk. Here X-rays were conducted, which also revealed nothing, so her sister was told that there was nothing more that they would do. She asked if maybe and MR. would help, but the nurse practitioner refused to order that test. Seeing her sister crying in pain, and knowing they were running out of options, she placed a phone call her own doctor (P. Hollies, electronic communication, September 26, 2011). This doctor recommended her sister be taken to the ERE in SST. Elizabethan Clinic by ambulance. She followed her doctor’s advice, and her sister was admitted into the hospital. After getting an MR., her sister learned she had a herniated disc and had to have surgery. They also learned that she was diabetic. Once the surgery was performed, the pain went away and was doing very well. However, even after diagnosing her with having diabetes and prescribing her insulin, at no point was she taught how to take the medicine. A phone call was placed to the director of the hospital about the poor treatment her sister received at SST. Elizabethan and she was assured that her sister would be taken care of. It is the firm belief of Ms. Hollies that her sister’s suffering was totally unnecessary. Is MMC just a novel approach to marketing communications and a marketing fad (is it merely communicating the same message in a new format), or should it be an integral part of Adidas’ overall brand communications strategy? I definitely think MMC should be an important component in their brand communications strategy, however I don’t think it should be relied heavily on to drive business. While cell phone internet usage is on the rise it’s not my preferred location to surf the internet, it’s only used in situations where I have no access to internet on a PC at all. I think internet advertising is more important as it’s already a proven to be a huge success for Adidas, even if the cost is a little higher. As the newer generation phones continue to come out on faster networks, such as the iPhone, surfing the net will become a more attractive option to mobile users. If Adidas didn’t have as much of a boost in sales as they anticipated when they first implemented it may be an option to revamp the campaign with a new celebrity and try it again now. I’d be willing to bet sales would be higher than they were the first go-round.
